Why do people blog?

I am very new to blogging. I often try to talk to my family and friends about it because it excites me to share my ideas this way. Despite my excitement, I often get the same reaction, “Why do you do this?”

To be honest, I don’t have an easy answer. I enjoy being part of a bigger online community. I love reading what others have to say. I feel like in order to be a productive member of this community, I need to contribute. That often doesn’t satisfy their need for understanding. As my boyfriend so tactfully put it, “I still think it’s creepy.”

I can understand that viewpoint. It is different to put your life and ideas out there for anyone to see. Isn’t that part of the point of web2.0? Transparency and collaboration are key. While I am not comfortable with 100% transparency for myself, I understand you have to give something to get something back.

With all this in mind, I want to pose the same question to you. What value do you see in blogging? If you have a blog, what is it about? Please let me know in comments! Feel free to leave a twitter name. Just a reminder, you can find me @kfred85 🙂

Fun Filled Foodie Day

Ever have one of those days that is just great? Today was one of those days. Computers were down at work today & the boss brought in egg casseroles and sticky buns. Yum! We had a meeting and got our Christmas gifts, gift cards to Gadgeteers.

We all went shopping there before lunch. It was fun to see what everyone bought. Interesting what you can learn about people that way. I am a foodie and I looooved their selection of kitchen gadgets! I bought a microplane and silicone egg poachers! Silly to some but I was in my glory. I could have spent all day in that store!

After our shopping adventure, we went to lunch at Spezia. DELICIOUS Italian food. I had a perfect lunch of cajun salmon over tortellini served in a cajun cream sauce. It was something I wouln’t normally have tried and it was delicious! I even got free dessert since we were celebrating my birthday; a little early but the only time available for everyone. We all shared a piece of tiramisu. I love tiramisu. It even had Spezia written out on the top in cocoa powder! (I am easily amused, hehe)

After our lunch, everyone went home! I sent in my paperwork and deposit to hold my place in the Physician Assistant Program at UNMC. That was almost surreal. Thinking that I’ve actually gotten this far is amazing. I am excited and nervous for the challenges the fall will bring!

Accepted!!!!

I got AMAZING news on Friday. I was at an interview for a Physician Assistant Master’s program at UNMC and I got a voicemail to call someone back. I returned the call and it was a faculty member from Chatham University calling to tell me that I was accepted into their program! I was so stoked! I jumped up and down for a good 5 minutes. It’s not easy to get in and I am just so honored that I am being given this opportunity. So regardless of whether I get in at UNMC or not, in August 2009, I will begin my training to become a Physician Assistant. Yay! It’s the best feeling in the world to know that all my hard work is paying off. 😀

Lots of New Things!

Hello and welcome to my new blog site! I decided it was time to switch host sites. I was looking for a bit more flexibility. My name is Katie. I am a currently serving Americorps*VISTA. I am using this blog as a space to write about my life and whatever social media and/or service-learning things I have going on at the moment.

I hope you will take the time to check out the posts from my old blog. I’ve included the link at the bottom of this post. I have been posting about once a week since September. There’s a few in there I am pretty proud of so I had to include them 😉 I hope to keep growing as a blogger here! Please leave a comment to say or leave any thoughts! I look forward to meeting you!
