So much has happened this month!! I had an amazing time at home, got 2 new awesome roomies who I’ve had some great adventures with, and started PA school. Ack!! Needless to say, blogging didn’t really happen so much this month.

I was home for 2 weeks for the first time since Christmas and that was just wonderful.  How can it not be when you come home to this? home august 2009 001

Mmmmmm! Red Cat, good New York style pizza, and wings.  What more could a girl ask for?  I had a fantastic time with friends and family alike.  I came back much recharged and looking forward to seeing them all again : ).

Lots of good times with the new roomies as well.  Perused the Old Market hitting up Upstream, Ted and Wally’s, and the pedestrian bridge as well as Barrett’s, Greek Festival, Urban Wine, and Zio’s.  Not all in one night of course!  It’s been so nice to connect with other girls my own age. I have missed that a lot since undergrad.

Speaking of school, I’ve just started my second full week of PA school.  It’s going to be interesting folks!! I sense much less time for blogging in the future.  A whole different type of academic atmosphere to adjust to and a whirlwind of a program will make life interesting over the next 2 years.  I’m sure there will be more to come on that as it happens.

Well this certainly is a short update. My apologies! I have to get back to class!! However, there will be an update on my 101 in 1001 posted later tonight some time if you are interested. If you have no idea what that means, drop by my post here:  https://kfredsmusings.wordpress.com/2009/06/30/101-in-1001/🙂

I just got back from Hawaii a week ago today.  Doesn’t seem possible!  I went with my boyfriend to visit some friends of mine who live in Hawaii.  They were kind enough to welcome us into their home for a week.  We stayed just outside of Honolulu.  It was the longest I’d gotten to see my bf since May.  It was so nice to spend so much time with him while getting to see my friends and all in an exotic locale!  The perfect vacation 🙂

at-dukes-in-hawaiiWe arrived late Saturday evening.  Gary and Karen met us at the airport with leis.  It was already dark when we got there so we couldn’t see most of the island.  They took us for a little drive through the Waikiki hotel district so we could see the beach and all the tiki torches lit.  We went for dinner and drinks at Duke’s.  It’s a restaurant located in a hotel with a patio right on the beach with live music! It was a fitting beginning for our Hawaiian vacation.  We got our tropical drinks and delicious food while enjoying the local music and looking at the waves.

The next day, we drove up the east cost of O’ahu and stopped to see the sights!  We stopped and explored the rocks at Hanauma Bay and Sandy Beach as we made our way to the North Shore.  My bf went exploring in the one of the little caves and ended up getting nailed by a huge wave as it came crashing in!  He was a little wet for the rest of the day but he dealt with it, hehehe. We stopped at a little place for lunch across from another beach.  Yummy seafood and Hawaiian Kona beer!  It started raining on our way home but we still managed to see so much of what the island had to offer in terms of scenery. january-calendarHere we are at the end of January.  Some of us have already made and given up on resolutions.  I haven’t made any yet.  (Maybe I should make one to stop procrastinating!)  The end of January seems like a good time to reassess what we want to do with our new year!

I was looking through my Delicious bookmarks this week and found this blog post by Chris Brogan.  Chris writes about a new way to set goals for yourself.  His ideas of being able to strive for broader concepts that apply to more than one area of life appeals to me.  I loved the idea of this post when I read it the first time and I had every intention of writing my own post about it. (Procrastination again!)  So I decided it was better late than never.

My goals for 2009 are Posture, Openness, Positivity

Posture: I want to use posture in 2 ways:  to help me be mindful of my physical posture (which is horrible) and to  also to adjust the ‘posture’  or attitude I use when I approach other people  and new situations.  I want to maintain a posture and attitude of respect for others and myself. I want to make sure my ‘posture’ represents my true self and my beliefs.

Openness:  This has been an unofficial goal of mine since this time last year.  Joining Americorps*VISTA and moving to Nebraska (see my post here) were the product of keeping an open mind.  Being more open to possibilities and suggestions has made VISTA an amazing experience for me.  I hope to extend the same openness to other areas of my life.  I can be a very closed off person at times and I hope to become more open and accepting of some of the people who I truly disagree with.

Positivity:  My personality is strange in that sometimes I am Ms. Optimistic but other times I drive others crazy with my negativity and unfounded worrying.  I want to stop being so negative and focus on the good in my own life and in others.  Going along with Openness, sometimes my worrying prevents me from taking chances and trying new things.  Thinking positively and worrying less, I hope to just let life happen instead of worrying about things I can’t change.

After looking at my goals, I realized I was going to make 2009 POP!  Yes, it actually was unintentional but I couldn’t let it pass after I realized it.  So what will you do with 2009?

If you need any inspiration check out the comments from Chris’ post and see what others have said!
